Sponsors Each mid is provided a sponsor family which is responsible for providing a home for your mid to relax in, watch TV, or listen to CD's. Many also provide transportation to and from the airport during vacation periods. By all means make arrangements to meet your mids sponsor and if you don't feel good about him/her, don't be bashful ask for another. The sponsor family is extremely important to your mid those first couple of years. This year, 645 families are participating in the Plebe Sponsor Program. This is an excellent program that focused on the welfare of the plebe midshipman. It enables them to take a break from the rigors of Academy life by visiting a home of the "Sponsor" family. The sponsors become a home away from home for the stressed plebes. It gives them a place to relax and not worry about constant pressure from upper classmen. Quite often, midshipmen continue to visit their Sponsors long after plebe year is over. Lasting relationships are formed, not only between the midshipman and sponsors, but between the mid's family and the sponsor as well. All sponsors must attend a briefing conducted by the Naval Academy to be eligible to participate in the Sponsor Program. A clear definition of rules and regulations of the Sponsor Program are presented, as well as the responsibilities of the Sponsor family for the midshipman. This way the sponsor families will know where the midshipmen can go, what they can and cannot wear, and what time they must be back to Bancroft Hall, a.k.a. "Mother B." The sponsor Program is coordinated by the Operations Office under the Commandant.
